Behind the Easel
I’m Maxine Bryher – an artist working mainly in oil paint and drawing, with a deep love for the sea and the landscape that surrounds me. I live on a small island, and the ever-changing sea conditions, tranquil scenery, and rich wildlife here are the heart of my inspiration.
My work often explores the flow and movement of the sea – its shifting colours, its rhythm, its power and peace. Seascapes are my favourite to paint, but I’m equally drawn to the quiet beauty of the island landscape, the birds and animals that call it home, and the vibrant energy of gig rowing, a sport I’m passionate about.
Alongside my personal work, I also take commissions and love working with others to create pieces that are meaningful and unique.
Whether it’s the crash of waves, the stillness of a harbour, or the shared joy of time on the water, my aim is to capture the spirit of island life and the deep connection I feel to the sea.
